Laughter Yoga is a unique & gentle form of exercise in which we combine breathing techniques from yoga with laughter exercises. This brings extra oxygen into the body, creates feel good hormones called endorphins, thereby creating a joy cocktail that makes us feel more energetic & healthier! Laughter Yoga connects us to our innate, playful nature. When we allow ourselves to be playful, laughter flows like a fountain! It can be practiced standing or sitting in a chair by EVERY body, regardless of age or fitness level. If you can breathe, you can do Laughter Yoga! Laughter Yoga has been scientifically proven to: release stress; boost the immune system; exercise your heart & lungs; elevate mood; improve circulation; reduce symptoms of arthritis, asthma, allergies & pain; and foster feelings of kindness, joy, forgiveness & love. Laughter truly is the best medicine!
Special Note: No yoga mat is needed, and this program is open to all from ages 5- 105! Laughter Yoga can be practiced standing or sitting, regardless of fitness level. If you can laugh, you can do Laughter Yoga. It’s best to do Laughter Yoga on an empty stomach.

YIN YOGA w/ LIVE SACRED MUSIC & GONG BATH

Register by calling The Urban Ashram: 407-558-4696

Allow Dana Kaplan, E-RYT 500 to guide you through a deep, restorative yin yoga practice that will prepare you for a great night of rest! Yin yoga is a series of long-held floor poses in which we relax the muscles completely to allow the gentle stress of the pose to sink into the deep connective tissues (joints, ligaments, bones, cartilages, tendons & fascia). This gentle stressing of the connective tissues increases our range of motion. The focus is on the hips and lower back where we are abundant in these yin tissues. This practice is accessible to all levels of practice. Dana’s voice will guide and relax you. Richard’s heavenly music will help you to let go completely and go even deeper into bliss. The practice will end with a guided meditation and sound bath.

About our touring guest musician, Richard Brookens:

Following the energy of a Yoga class with live music, sometimes over original recorded tracks is a natural fit for a jazz musician who is also a Yoga teacher.  Richard’s Alto Flute, Bamboo flutes from India and China, Gongs, Crystal Chakra Bowls and Tibetan Singing Bowls, Chimes, and Ancient Sanskrit Mantra melodies create a tapestry of uplifting and peaceful vibes, opening the heart as the Asana opens the body.

Richard Brookens has been a professional musician for over 50 years and has taught Yoga and Meditation for the last 25 years. It was an organic process for him to combine his love of music and Yoga to play for Yoga classes over 20 years ago. He is currently on the faculty of Barry University in Miami, Florida and currently teaches 15 Yoga and Meditation classes a week.

Energy Exchange: $35

Space is limited. Pre-Registration highly recommended

Register at The Urban Ashram: 407-558-4696

***What to bring***

Your yoga mat and any other props you have (blankets, pillows, blocks, bolsters).

To support the relaxation of the muscles in the yin poses, props are highly recommended.

Only a limited number of props will be available at the center.

SHAKTI KIRTAN with Kristen Ambrosi & Dana Kaplan

Join Bhakti Sisters Kristen Ambrosi and Dana Kaplan for a renewal of body, mind and spirit through the practice of Kirtan.

Kristen, who resides in CT, and Dana first met at David Newman’s Kirtan College in Yogaville in the fall of 2015. It was an instant heart connection and beautiful vocal blending. They have been looking to collaborate ever since and are so excited that it is finally happening!

About our visiting artist: Kristen is appreciated for her warm presence and moving vocals. This devotional, uplifting practice of bhakti yoga – gathering interfaith groups where all voices blend into one-brings her heart home. She has been leading kirtan at studios throughout the northeast and at Yoga Festivals including Lovelight and BlessFest. She has been privileged to sing response alongside renowned kirtan leaders such as Dave Stringer, Brenda McMorrow, Mirabai Moon, Johanna Beekman, Scott Hari Whitmore, David Newman and her beloved sister Sangita. Kristen offers live chanting to support students’ meditation and restoration for her own yoga classes as well as for her respected teacher, Jillian Pransky’s popular retreats at Kripalu, Omega and other venues. She leads yoga teacher training workshops on incorporating chant into classes, offers harmonium and mantra lessons for yoga instructors, and is in the development on her heart-project, an album of devotional chant.

Exploring the Vibration of Wholeness with Yvette OM

Immerse into Sacred Sounding of Sanskrit Mantras for Wholeness and Joy. At a time when our world seems balanced on a string, our minds may be particularly influential regarding our connectedness to Self Love, Wholeness and Happiness. What confuses and thwarts your Joy? Is it a stubborn inner judgment? Or the insistent conflicted parts of you applauding your attention? Consequently, what is ours inherently to celebrate can appear disparate and elusive.  During this two hour workshop, we will sanctify our Wholeness together through chant, music, meditation, reflection and journaling.

“ It is through the sounding of ‘Purnam’, the seed potential within all beings, that the Whole heart is experienced and set free.”

Like the Goddess Rising 3: A Shakti Kirtan Celebration! on Saturday 3/16/24, the workshop also takes place at The Kaplan Shakti Shala: a private home in Longwood, FL (Orlando area). Address will be provided upon registration.

All registration options provided in registration link. Make sure to register for BOTH Saturday’s Kirtan Fest AND Sunday’s workshop together as the COMBO get the deepest experience, and to save! Early Bird Pricing is available through 2/29/24. Pricing goes up March 1st.

Kirtan for Feed Everyone Orlando

This is my 3rd year leading an annual fundraising kirtan at The Urban Ashram in December; celebrating 4 years of TUA’s serving the community with a loving and open heart. Every second Saturday of the month, TUA feeds the homeless in Orlando (the Feed Everyone Orlando program). During the holidays, we collect socks, blankets, and really anything that will help keep our homeless brothers and sisters warm during the winter months.

So please join us Sunday afternoon, December 10th at 4:00 as we sing, chant & open our hearts, not only to Divine Spirit, but also to generosity, kindness & compassion for all beings.

PLEASE BRING FOR DONATION: New (or lightly used & clean) blankets, socks, hats, etc. Monetary donations will go towards purchasing warm items (suggested donation $20)

On Christmas morning we will meet at the Ashram and go out to distribute what we’ve collected. Please contact the Ashram if you’d like to join us.

Kirtan & Yoga Nidra

Join us for the perfect pairing of call-and-response chanting followed by the integrative gift of yoga nidra led by Bricelyn Shafron, E-RYT 200, RYT 500. Soak up the universal unconditional love.

To Bring Devotion is an Orlando based Kirtan band. Kirtan is an age-old practice of Bhakti Yoga, the yogic path of unconditional love. In this call & response form of musical chanting, our minds soften & focus, while our hearts open to the Divine light that resides within us all. The Names & mantras chanted carry great transformative, vibrational power. As Krishna Das says: “With chanting, the music is the syrup and the Divine Names are the medicine.” Dana Kaplan is the leader & co-founder of the band. Her rich, soulful voice will guide you deep into the practice.

Live Music Yin Yoga w/ Wynne & Dana

Wynne Paris and Dana Kaplan are back for a morning of Yin Yoga and live music!

The music Wynne plays for Dana's yin class is different than what you would hear at his kirtans. It's much softer and contemplative. Dana guides you into the yin poses and then the music comes in. Harmonium, sarod, guitar and soft percussion blend together. Wynne & Dana also sing together, adding beautiful harmonies that bring a transformational element to the experience.

This event tends to fill up fast. Please make sure to register in advance (online or while you're at the studio)

Regular class rates apply.
Suggested $10 donation for the musician
(cash preferred, credit card ready)

Kirtan Fundraiser for Krista Shirley w/ TBD

Let's come together to raise funds and healing energy for our beloved friend/yogini/yoga teacher Krista Shirley.

In the past year, Krista has experienced something no one ever should. She has undergone countless shoulder and spine surgeries, seen an excess of doctors who told her she couldn’t be helped and lost her ability to teach yoga, help others, and live her daily life with her son. Krista is a strong, loving person who cares deeply for her community, yoga practice and helping others advance their yoga practice and ultimately become a better version of themselves. Through the past year, she’s had to put her life on halt and has almost lost everything. This fundraiser is to help Krista pay for her $100K medical bills, save her house, her family and The Yoga Shala.

Local kirtan band, To Bring Devotion is offering a Kirtan Fundraiser in which ALL funds will go directly to Krista.
Kirtan is a practice of Bhakti Yoga, The Yoga of Devotion. In this call and response style of singing, we chant Divine names & powerful healing mantras set to beautiful music. Not only will we raise much needed funds for Krista, but we will also bathe her in healing light as we sing these names and mantras TOGETHER-when the vibrations of our voices are super amplified.

Registration is FREE & will enable you to receive the exact address of the event. Please reserve a spot only if you truly plan on attending.

Thank you for making a cash or check donation for Krista at the event.
